Yvonne Panetti's 1995 Letter to Judge Ables

BELOW IS A LETTER THAT SCOTT'S MOTHER, YVONNE, WROTE TO THE EDITORS OF THE FOUR BIGGEST TEXAS NEWSPAPERS ON JAN. 22, 2004

My son is scheduled to be murdered on February 5th. The horror is made worse by the fact it will be done by polite, civilized, nice people, just like me.

It will be done in the name of punishment and revenge. It will be the state's imitation of the criminal. Ironic, since society was complicit in the crime. I refer you to the web site

This killing will not be done humanely. It will be done with lethal injection which has within it the ingredient pancurrium bromide. This substance causes paralysis and gives the allusion of sleep. Actually the one who is injected will be fully aware of excruciating pain. Most
veterinarians refuse to euthanize animals with the drug.

Please realize that the judicial system is terribly flawed in Texas. Our mentally ill son was judged competent despite the plethora of medical documentation presented. He wasn't competent to stand trial let alone act as his own attorney. The court transcript proves Scott's trial was a travesty of justice.

Scott's family members suffer also. The despair over the loss of life and the sadness for the family of the victims. Disbelief that our loved one did such a thing overwhelms us. We are sustained by the knowledge that a normal Scott was incapable of hurting anyone. Scott struggles to maintain sanity. He is not the person he was when the crime was committed.
